Practical tips and tools for homeschooling
When you homeschool your children, it is important to have a warm, inviting, and inspiring space in which to spend (most) of your days. It is also important to have an organized space that makes homeschooling easier and that fosters independence as part of the learning experience. This resource will guide you step-by-step through the process of intentionally creating a home school space that you and your children want to use on a daily basis.
Grade Level(s):
You can use this resource to select, plan, and organize your home school space for students in all grade levels.
Why to Use:
Use this resource to create a dedicated space in your home that is prepared with everything your children will need for learning, creating, discovering, and exploring during the current or upcoming school year.
How to Use:
Follow the prompts to figure out what you need (and what you don’t) from your dedicated home school space. This resource guides you through a series of steps to make informed and thoughtful decisions about design, layout, organization, and day-to-day use.
When to Use:
This resource is designed to be used before the beginning of the home school year or at any time during the year if your current home school space isn’t working (or isn’t working as well as it could). We have also included tips for keeping your home school space organized and adapting it year after year as your children progress through their education.
Children are always growing, so it is important to design and maintain a space that grows with them and meets their evolving needs over time.
Parent-Educator Tips:
This resource is designed to take about 60 minutes to complete–up to the point that you are ready to start working on your dedicated home school space. Once you are ready to start working on your space, you should make sure you have everything you need (or at least all of the key items) before you start laying out your space and organizing it. Otherwise, you might find that your space doesn’t work as well as it should.
If you are preparing your space for the start of the home school year, make a plan (in your home school planner) to ensure that your space will be ready on time. If you are revamping your space in the middle of the school year, do this on a weekend so that it doesn’t distract from your children’s home school work.
There are a lot of beautiful home school spaces on display across various resources. Feel free to use these for ideas and inspiration, but don’t get hung up on what other people are doing (or saying they are doing) online. Home school is adaptable to all kinds of spaces, and you should focus on your design aesthetic and budget. This resource will help you create a welcoming and functional space that works for your family and that is adaptable for years to come.
Please note: All of our resources are for the purchaser’s use only. While we encourage you to use all of our resources as many times as you want to (including year after year), we ask that you do not provide copies to other people.
